Is my NTSC SNES dead?

I have a huge problem with my brand new american SNES. At first when I played it, I used a 9Volta DC power supply and it worked like a charm. I also used the same power supply on a New Style SNES, and it also worked perfectly.
Then after a while, I sold my new style SNES, and the buyer wouldn’t have it unless he got the DC power supply along with it. So I had to give it to him.
I got a little anxious to play some SNES games that I recently bought on ebay, and since I didn’t have a power supply, and also no money, I took the power supply from my modem, which outputed 9 V and 800 mA. I thought to myself, ”It has gotta work, since it outputs identical power as the one I had before”. So I cut some wires, soldered a little here and there, and I connected it to the NTSC SNES, and it worked. So I thought, ”Cool, now I don’t have to buy a new power supply”. The thing that I didn’t realize, was that the power supply that came from my modem, was a AC one. It outputed AC power, not DC. Then how could it work on a NTSC SNES, which required DC power? Strange, I thought.
Anyway, later after playing a while, I wanted to solder everything back as it was, so I could use my modem again. Stupid as I was, I cut the wire when it was connected to the SNES AND the wall. I saw that a little flash came out, just as I hit the copper with the scissors. ”OH Shit!”. I hoped that nothing has happened, but of course I was wrong. Later when I was finished soldering everything back, I connected the power supply to my modem, and nothing happened when I pushed the ”on” button. I checked if there was any power coming out of the supply with a voltmeter, and it didn’t. So I realized that it was broken, and it must had short circuited. So after about a week, I bought an identical DC powersupply that I had before, and tried to connect it to the modem. No luck at all. I also connected the same supply to the SNES, 9V DC, no luck there either. After some time, I got a hold of a power supply from an old PAL NES. And it worked with my modem, but not with the SNES. That’s how I knew that the original power supply that I used with the modem, must have been a AC one, cause the NES powersupply is AC, and it works with the modem, so...

So my question is now

I’m pretty sure that my SNES must have shortcircuited along with the AC modem power supply when I cut the wires. Doesn’t it have some kind of protection from shortcircuiting (the SNES) ? Or maybe it hasn’t short circuited, maybe it’s just something else? I remember one post that Cyan/Manu posted a long time ago, that he conected a SNES PAL power supply to his US SNES, and it worked fine. How can that be?
And I also know that there IS power coming into the SNES with the DC power supply, cause I’ve checked it with a voltmeter. And it’s not an issue with the little red diod on the front, it doesn’t shine, and there is no picture on the TV. So, is my SNES dead? What can I do? Any methods you know of that I can check if my SNES works? I have a GAMEBIT scew, so I can open the SNES and check things there too...
Please, any help or tip is highly appreciated
