The black "thing" is a fuse.

If you are lucky, that's the only thing that's broken.
I blew mine up when installing a pal/ntsc switch (I
accidently let the 5V wire touch the grounded shielding.
After that I used resistors like the instructions said :)
Anyway I replaced it with a standard 1A fuse and my SNES
has been working ever since.

You can't visually see if the fuse is burnt because it's
inside the black thing. If you really blew the fuse tho,
the red light on the front will not glow.

> While I had it opened, I connected both the 9V DC supply and the PAL NES AC supply, and I checked if there was any voltage inside. I connected the voltmeter to various places, and there was voltage. I checked between the black "thing" beside the on/off switch, it had 9V, and also I checked some of the ICs, and they showed 0.02, and 0.05 someplaces, and that big I G 0 component, showed 0.5 V when I connected the 0 and I together.
> Also, when I turned the SNES off, and then back again, the voltage went down from about 4, to 3 then 1,8 or something, down to 0, just like when you power off and on a SNES, and you see the diod light for a short time.
> So what I figure, is that my SNES behaves pretty normally, but why doesn't it work? :(
