> If you look at features I would say that the SWCDX2 is a very good machine. You can attach ZIP-drives, CD-ROMS and harddrives. You can also connect it to a PC via a parallel cable. The version I have has 64M memory, meaning that I can also play Tales of Phantasia on it. It does the basic stuff like reading from floppy, saving and restore save RAM. You can back up a game cartridge to choosen media.

> You don't need a power supply, and you don't need a game cartridge inserted in the SWCDX2 either.

> Drawbacks as I see it is the price of the unit. And it does not keep the last loaded ROM in memory, meaning you have to reload the game after a power off. It loads kinda slow from floppy compared to other units too.

> The Super UFO 8 have all the stuff as the SWCDX2 except the zip-drive, cd-rom and parallel cable options. But it keeps the last loaded ROM in memory. It loads disks alot faster than the SWCDX2. But the unit need a game cart if it's used on a PAL system. It's alot cheaper and has a more sleek design that suits the SNES colors well. The SWCDX2 is black compared to the SNES grey/light grey.

> And the practical difference between the UFO and SWC is that you can play ToP and transfer games from PC to the console if you have the SWC. But those options will cost you more. And depending on what you think is important, you probably think both units are just as great as the other one.

> I love them both. My SWC is the best when connected to a PC, but my UFO is over all more nice when playing from disks. But you should keep in mind that it's more time consuming fixing roms, save to disk, check if works etc. Then a parallel cable is alot easier.

> Hope this will help (or confuse).

Personally, I think the parallel port option is the best feature of the SWC DX2 and is worth the extra cash. The games load much faster and you don't have to go scrounging for multiple floppies whenever you want to play a game. I have my system set up so that I merely turn on my SNES and double-click a ROM image on my computer to load it. It doesn't get any easier or any faster than that. A game like ToP takes about a minute to load through the parallel port whereas it would take about 4 minutes loading from floppies. You also don't have to go through 4 or 5 disks to load it.

And as for the power supply to the SWC DX2, you may need one depending on your SNES. Most systems can't handle the extra voltage to run the floppy drive and will need that power adapter.
