I would recommend that you first try using an external power supply. Are you loading your games from floppy? The floppy really taxes the SNESes power supply. Get a 9VDC 1A center negative power supply. You could try loading from the parallel port I suppose.If it still doesn't work there must be a problem with it. Since you just got it, it's probably under warranty so send it back for repair.
Once the unit is reliable I've found that most problems with games not working when you have a good ROM image are traceable to a bad SMC header. Fix the header and the games will usually work.
