SWC DX2 PAL with DSP-plugin, or not?

Hello.

I'm about to buy a PAL SWC DX2, and am not sure whether to also buy a DSP-plugin or not. If I got it right, a cartridge with a DSP-chip could be used instead of installing a DSP-plugin, but it might not work with all games?
Does buying a DPS-plugin from FFE make a difference?
