If you are thinking about getting a SWX DX2 or Disk Dual, you should know that a Zip Drive may be more practical for storage, than the Disk Dual (I have both). That is if you can find a Zip drive that is compatible. Only 1st generation parallel zip drives work with the DX2. Zip Plus and Zip 250's don't work; later model Zip 100 Parallel drives don't work either.
I say this because the CD-ROM support on the Disk Dual is somewhat spotty. It can be hard to find a CD-ROM drive that works with the Disk Dual (old 2x and 4x drives work best, but these are slow and hard to find). Newer fast CD-ROM drives take so long to spin up, that the DX2 times out waiting, unless you time it just right. Using a hard drive with the Disk Dual would be a good option, except you can't use a very large drive.
Some may disagree, but the Disk Dual is an incovenient solution at times. I wouldn't give mine up, because I have managed to find a CD-ROM and a trick to get mine working most of the time, but others have not been so lucky. The Zip drive works consistently.
Any comments or opinions are welcome.
