About 50% of all SMS games (like Phantasy Star or all Sonic titles, for example) won't work with the SMD anyways, due to limited mapper support (similar to NES). There's no other conversion util available, so the only other way is to use a hex editor and add a SMD header to your SMS ROMs yourself... but I don't think you'll find any other results.
