Yeah SRAM is great but in the past back when all the console systems got released it wasn't a possibility since SRAM was expensive and wasn't high enough density.


SRAM is so much easier to setup than Flash and it works almost exactly like a mask ROM.

Programming SRAM is real simple you just change the address bits and data bits in write mode and you wrote the new info. My current simple schematic design for the SRAM to PC interface was slightly more complex than I would like it to be but it does allow for simple programming.

Its only disadvantage is the non-volatile problem meaning it needs the battery to power it. But as I said before you need the battery for the saved game SRAM. Plus you don't have to worry about bad blocks like you do on Flash memory.
