How do I use save state on Wildcard DX?

I am at a loss how to save my progress to the Wildcard, and then how to transfer that save to disk. There were no manuals with my Wildcard when I bought it and it's been so long, I can't remember how to save! I seem to remember it being a combination of joypad buttons...
I am a bit confused too, are there two methods of save? Realtime save, SRam save? Do I power off and on and then save to disk? How do I load a game, and then load a saved game into it? Thanks for any info.
