I'm not sure what it is. There is a slight hum to the drive when the power supply is turned on, but you cannot open the drive. There is no apparent errors such as "peanut butter" or anything in the like. It's at my rbothers right now, i will have to check the model no.

Do you have any idea whether it's a drive or electronics problem (no kids putting peanut butter in the drive, etc.)? Once you find out what type of drive your unit has you can look around for a replacement.
