Problem with translated Tales of Phantasia on DX2

I just grabbed myself a copy of Tales of Phantasia (good checksum) and applied the English translation patch so I could play it on my SWC DX2. Unfortunately for some reason it freezes up when I talk to some people in the game. Works fine in Snes9X though. Anyone know if the translation has some emulator specific stuff that won't work on a DX2 or is there some sort of way to make this work?
