Help needed - How to fix a Double Pro Fighter?

I've just bought a second hand double profighter but I'm having difficulty getting it to work...

If I plug it into my Mega-Drive the menu screen comes up but I can't load or save to the floppy drive. I've tried replacing the floppy with a brand new unit (working) but it doesn't make any difference. Also there is a low hum through the TV speakers when using the Double Pro Fighter.

When I plug it into my SNES, yes it did come with both adapters :), I just get a black screen.

I'm using a 9v 500mA adapter BTW.

I suspect it might be a dead unit but if anyone can offer any suggestions on how to get it up and running again it would be greatly appreciated as I had intended using it to do some compatiblity testing for my site.
