Unplug the Z64 from your N64 and put the cart into the Z64. Then you back it up to a ZIP via the LCD menu.
Put your normal PAL cart back in your Z64, mount it on the N64 and power up. Now you can load your NTSC game from the ZIP.

Then you don't have to buy an adapter.
