VGS, parallel cable questions

Well, I have a Disk Dual and I'm sick and tired of trying to mess around with it to get it to work. I don't have the time. I'll probably end up selling it or something (offers welcome). I wouldn't have bought it if I knew I was getting another new computer soon afterwards.

Anyways, I have some questions about VGS. I bought a 25 wire male to male parallel cable for it and tried loading ROMs from my computer to my SWC DX2. I have no problems loading. However, I cannot use some of the options in VGS for some reason. It won't save SRAM, load a cart etc. It only loads ROMs. Also, if I power off my SWC DX2 to return to the GUI, the screen stays black unless I disconnect the cable. Does anyone else have these problems? Is it something I'm doing...for example the wrong cable or port settings? Any input would be appreciated.

Also, are there any other better programs than VGS?
