I estimate about 7-8 years based on reports. It's pretty easy to change the battery if you have the right battery and beginning soldering skills. Just get the right security bit, open the cart, unsolder the old battery and solder in the new one.

If you have a working backup unit you could even save your sram and restore it after the battery replacement to avoid losing your saved games. Another legal use for backup units.
