You really need an external power supply with these units. You might get away without one if you have it plugged into your PC's parallel port because it'll tap some power off of that.

I know specifically of one person here who claimed to have problems with a new DX2 and after plugging in an external power supply the problems disappeared. And remember, a new unit will be under warrantee, so if you do experience a problem you can get it replaced.

No guts, no glory! FFE has a decent reputation. I've been very satisfied with my DX2. I'd go for it!
