How do I get Donkey Kong Country 2 to work on my Super UFO 8!!!

I've tried running the rom as it was and I could only get to a certian point in the first level, right before the end, and the screen would stop scrolling. Then I tried the ips patch by nightfall and I could get through the 1st level, but it would notlet me move on. The only level I could play was the 1st. After I finished, it would go to the main screen and only let me enter the 1st level. Any ideas???
