Just to let you know Mandoris, that not everyone thinks your idea is so bad. I have a mini PC in my living room (It's about the size of a VCR). It's only an old P2 333mhz but it does what I need. I spray painted the case matte black to match my stereo components. I added an old ATI rage PC2TV video card to it to output to my TV and a wireless IR keyboard /w built in touch pad to control it (with hotkeys, of course). I loaded it with 2, 8gig harddrives. One harddrive is loaded with MP3's and the other contains everything else including various emulators. I use a pair of Gravis Gamepad Pros for the games. Finally, for convenience, I've got it networked to my "real" computers in the den. In my case, I already had a DVD player so I never added that option to it. Otherwise it acts like a stereo component for the MP3's, and a general purpose game machine for all the emulators. (Playing MAME arcade games on a 42" screen is pretty cool)

As far as cost went....let's put it this way, my PS2 with all the "necessary" options like 2 games, 2 memory cards, and a second controller ran me almost as much... But who cares about how much it cost :)
