Well, only advice I can give is: open the unit and look if it has a DSP chip built in. My Super Profighter Q(+) does have one and it says "DSP: ON" on the main screen. Still doesn't do anything, though, but from the condition the Pins of the chip are in I'd say it is just broken. Still looking for a cheap Pilotwings or Super Mario Kart Cart to replace it.
No idea on the CD-ROM issue.
