Save game issue with GB Xchanger cart

Here's what I've tried:
Copied only one game with SRam on it (and about 3 others that don't use SRam)

Copied only 1 game onto the cart (Shadowgate)

Tried to use other games with SRAM to test to see if it's the rom.

None of this works. Could the battery in the cart be bad (like I said, it's only been out of the package for about 12 hours)? If I do need to replace the battery, how do I go about opening the cart? I've taken the screw off, but it still seems like there's something holding the cart together.

Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated.
